Story

“A Space for Exploration”

Amid the challenging path of national development—where research in the field of energy shapes independence and future prosperity—the Research and Technology Building of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran was conceived as a “research command center.”

The goal of this project was not merely to design a building for administration or research. Rather, it was to create a space that acknowledges and supports the lived experience of scientists and researchers: a place where silence is meaningful, where the flow of light is deliberate, and where every path serves as a continuation and connection of scientific and research-based dialogue.

The structure took form through a clear material language—concrete, metal, and carefully controlled transparency of glass—without overt displays of power. These elements, like layers of an experiment, are precisely arranged in spatial tiers. The overall form avoids mimicking symbolic geometries; instead, it seeks to create an internal order—one that is born of the scientific method but not confined by it, and that also distances itself from the stylistic clichés of aestheticized media imagery.

In the interior design, “order” was prioritized over decor; workspaces were designed with flexibility in mind, enabling adaptability and growth in line with evolving research projects. The auditorium was designed not just for presentations but as a platform for dialogue. The laboratories, located at the heart of the project, are where theory and practice intersect—where science is born.
